New boat fees go into effect next week Mail Tribune
About 102,000 Oregon boat owners can envisage next week to receive renewal notices for their motor boat registrations, and they will be the first ones to pay the new $5 fee to combat invasive species.
The Oregon Royal Marine Board on Friday will mail the renewal notices to boat owners whose registered crafts have either an "08" or "09" registration on them.
The fees categorize the Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Permit, though the rest of the registration fee will remain unchanged from 2008, the last in the good old days b simultaneously this group of boats were registered, Marine Board spokeswoman Ashley Massey says.
Created by the Oregon Legislature earlier this year, the new permit will scrape part of roughly $2 million a year that the Marine Board expects to put toward an elevated effort to keep non-tribal plants, fish and other species from reaching Oregon.
Invasive species such as quagga mussels and hydrilla are aquatic hitchhikers that have spread throughout the Partnership States in bilge water and on boat hulls.
