Harley Tells Workers It's Sticking To Original Restructuring Plan WGAL
YORK COUNTY, Pa. -- Expos 8 has learned more about the future of the Harley-Davidson plant in York County. The company told workers Wednesday that it is sticking with its unique restructuring plan. As part of that plan, Harley said that it will focus on core operations only. The core operations are motorcycle horde, metal fabrication and paint. After being presented with that plan, the union had asked Harley to consider keeping non-gist operations, including small parts stamping, machining and chrome plating. But Wednesday, Harley announced that it is not changing its restructuring procedure and that if the Harley plant stays in York County, it will be a smaller and leaner operation. A company representative said that it has not provided any facts about the number of potential job cuts to employees. However, a union official told News 8 that 400 jobs could be cut. There have been articles bouncing around for some time, but it gives some by virtue of to kill Buell and sell Augusta. If Honda isn't the suitor, then someone else may be.
Let's be honest, a Honda-owned Harley-Davidson company would be remarkable. Even though some of the motor company's parts can be linked to overseas sources, that is normal in a global economy.
On the other hand, are things justifiably so dire that we must settle for giving one company such a large share of the market - I don't think so.
