The closure of the Stanley Auto Unit's franchise will have little effect on jobs because most of the employees were transferred to the neighboring Stanley Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealership, said Beckie Endebrock, the dealership's chief operating government agent.

The franchise cut five positions, she said.

"Very few jobs were eliminated," Endebrock said.

Inventory from the Brownfield GM dealership was redistributed among other Composite Motors locations in the Dallas-based auto group's remaining 19 dealerships, she said.

"It was neutral a business decision," Endebrock said of the closing. She declined to be more specific.

General Motors said in May it would be closing some 1,100 dealerships nationally by October 2010 as part of an blanket business restructuring.

Monday's closing was the second for the Stanley operation in Brownfield. Chrysler cancelled a constrict with the motorplex earlier this year.

Earlier this month, owners of Smith Ford-Mercury in Slaton said they will in the neighbourhood of that dealership Nov. 30. Owners were giving serious consideration to converting the Slaton facility to a used car sales and serving center.
