Stolen heavy equipment worth $250G found Times Herald-Record
NEW WINDSOR — Burgh police on Tuesday charged a man with stealing more than a quarter of a million dollars worth of heavy apparatus.
Police say they still don't know why, although they speculate he planned to resell it. "He isn't saying much of anything," said police Deputy Chief Rick Hovey.
Policewomen said the trouble began for Richard G. Ostner, 24, of New Windsor, on Oct. 21, when he allegedly tippet a Bobcat excavating machine from the Lake Street area in the City of Newburgh.
New Windsor the coppers Sgt. Daniel Valeri later found Ostner operating the truck and trailer allegedly used to steal the Bobcat.
Metropolis police said Ostner later made statements about other stolen property on vacant land his next of kin owns on Jackson Avenue.
Police went there and found a backhoe reported stolen from the Reserve, a residential increase off Mount Airy and Bethlehem roads, in August.
