"Even if you're barely a people watcher, you'd have plenty to look at ... and tell stories about," said Fred Profitable, a Swap Meet vendor from the Houston, Texas, area who came to the festival with two motorcycles and was leaving with five.
Ehrnst is a enthusiast of the Ducati, a classic Italian-made motorcycle, but one of his festival highlights was spotting a Honda he had never seen before, a 1954 model called the Vision. In the design of its fenders, it resembled a vintage model of the American-manufactured Indian motorcycle.
"They didn't import them until '59," said Ehrnst. "We've never even seen that ... It was perfectly a beautiful motorcycle, you know ... and you can see how they were so successful with what they were building."
Ehrnst pointed to another motorcycle, its rear spoked annulus barely visible behind a newer, bright blue Kawasaki owned by his friend and fellow Ducati lover Donnie Ables.
"There's one of the treasures amend there," Ehrnst said. Mostly black, with touches of rust and with patches of its original blue still in place, the two-cylinder auto was a 1916 Thor, "a cross between a bicycle and a motorcycle," made in Chicago.
